Understanding Dystonia
Dystonia is a rare neurological pathology characterized by involuntary muscular contractions, responsible for abnormal postures and movements which can lead to partial or total loss of autonomy.
The clinical aspects as well as the causes of dystonias are very numerous, this complexity leads to difficulty in establishing the right one. At the Neuron Institute we work on both classes of diseases.
Isolated dystonias (formerly primary)
where the only clinical abnormality is the presence of abnormal postures or movements. When identified the causes are genetics.
Acquired dystonias (formerly secondary)
which associate other neurological and extra-neurological signs with dystonia. The causes are external.
